FREE COMPOST
Bring buckets, barrels and shovels to pick up free compost at these locations: April 20, 3pm - Bellevue Square Park (Augusta Ave, N of Dundas St); April 26, 3pm - Huron Community Garden (Huron St, S of College St); and May 18, 2pm - Margaret Fairley Parkette, Brunswick Ave & Ulster). Councillor Vaughan and his staff will be on hand to greet you and celebrate Spring!
VOTE FOR WALTER HUSTON – before April 30th
Walter Huston, star of 53 films, father of actor/director/writer John Huston, grandfather of actress Anjelica Huston, was born in Toronto in 1884. Many of Walter’s childhood homes, including 11 Major Street, still stand. Former HVRA board member Richard Longley is seeking support for his 2010 nomination of Walter Huston for a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame. NEIGHBOURHOOD CLEANUP, Saturday April 24, 12 noon.
The 3nd Annual “Litter-free Lippincott Clean-up Day” welcomes all Harbord Village residents to bring bags to Lippincott and Harbord and help clean up the neighbourhood for 30-60 minutes. Afterwards, Pizza Nova will serve complimentary pizza to all participants. The initiative is part of the City of Toronto and Mayor Miller’s “Community Clean-Up Day” that encourages citizens to choose a public space in the city and go and clean it up. TREEING THE VILLAGE meeting – April 27, 7pm, 223 Borden Street
Spring is the perfect time to get involved with HVRA’s active Treeing the Village committee. The main items on their agenda are providing inexpensive backyard trees and recruiting store owners and others to water street trees on College, Harbord, Spadina and Bloor. VOLUNTEERING WITH OUR FARMER'S MARKET
Plans are well underway for this year's Farmers' Market, which will open for the third year on Wednesday, June 2nd in the Green P parking lot, south of Bloor and Borden. But it is not too late to volunteer. The market is dependent on community volunteers from residents' associations including HVRA.
