Please bring your family and friends to Harbord on Sunday evening, November 1st from 5:30pm to 9pm to enjoy our 2nd annual Harbord Street Pumpkin Festival. Just like last year, you will find several hundred candle-lit pumpkins - many skillfully carved, resting on sidewalk tables. Think of it as one big community art celebration.
Speaking of art, our first Pumpkin Festival Art Show will take place inside the former Miss Emma's storefront at 85 Harbord, where you will see displayed the works of 7 local artists. In the same storefront, HVRA will be giving away free hot cider and hosting a silent auction, thanks to the donations of meals and other gifts from generous merchants on College, Bloor and Harbord streets. The silent auction and the Festival as a whole are co-sponsored by the Harbord Business Improvement Association. Some of the proceeds will go to the Hospital for Sick Kids and the remainder to HVRA to support our many community projects.
Please bring your carved pumpkin to Harbord between 3 and 5pm - or leave it on your porch at noon on Sunday, with a note saying "take me". We'll have volunteers driving around picking up pumpkins. At 9pm, City crews will arrive with special trucks to take away the pumpkins for composting.
If you did not receive a small poster about the Festival (i.e. it was only delivered to half of our neighbourhood), then many of your neighbours may not know about the event. So please spread the word and encourage everyone to bring their pumpkins and enjoy the artistry of their fellow carvers.
We'll look forward to seeing you on Harbord Street on Sunday evening, one day after Halloween on Saturday night.
Cheers,
Tim Grant, the newish HVRA chair, www.harbordvillage.com
