Hello Wonderful HVRA Members,
The Board of the Harbord Village Residents’ Association and the City of Toronto Live Green programme are delighted to announce a pilot project that could make Harbord Village the greenest neighbourhood in the country.
Yes, that is right... HVRA is setting the standard in new territory yet again!! And in the bargain, we plan to make the expression - Think Globally: Act Locally come alive in Harbord Village
The City’s new Live Green Toronto program fights climate change by supporting community groups to green their own neighbourhoods. HVRA’s Home Energy Retrofit Subsidy programme (HERS) is among the first projects selected for City support.
A quarter of greenhouse gas production is from heating and cooling houses. We can make significant reductions in greenhouse gases where we live! The HVRA energy retrofit project is designed to give you easy access to home energy audits and energy-conserving improvements for your home.
• Save money
• Lower greenhouse gases
• Improve the comfort of your home
• Take the heat off your pocket book—and the planet
This pilot project could be rolled out in neighbourhoods everywhere. We hope to sign up 200 houses!
Here's what you can do:
• Plan on signing up to get a city-subsidized energy audit on your home, starting in February 2009
• Come to our public meetings, starting in February.
• Volunteer to help out with our working committee of residents to help organize the project. There are lots of things that need to be done, from writing Requests for Proposals for auditors and contractors, to helping with the vendor selection, to organizing public meetings and neighbourhood involvement, to helping with website information, publicity and distributing flyers. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact our project manager David Booz at 416-806-2669 or dbooz@boozengineering.com. Helping out doesn’t have to be a big commitment – every little bit helps.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact HVRA HERS project manager David Booz at 416-806-2669 or dbooz@boozengineering.com.
Signed,
Rory “Gus” Sinclair
