Dear neighbourhood artists!
I am very excited by an upcoming outreach opportunity from Trinity St Pauls - to neighbourhood artists - to get together to talk about what the Centre for Faith, Justice and the Arts can do to advance the arts in our community over the next 5 years. The meeting is at 3 pm on Sunday afternoon, Nov 2, at the Church. I really hope you will come AND BRING YOUR IDEAS. I am an artist too, and really love this chance to consider how we can support each other and our work in some small ways, and maybe some big ways!!
A letter from Trinity St. Paul's with all the details, is below.
Dear Artists,
In 2003, as part of our initial five year planning process aimed at strengthening the core values of Trinity St. Paul’s (TSP) United Church, we undertook to create a Centre for Faith, Justice and the Arts. We strive to be a faith community deeply rooted in both the arts and social justice. In 2006, as a congregation we committed to support the arts community by various means, which currently includes space for residency and performance by various arts organizations.
As an important component of this vision, we invite you to a workshop aimed to help us build our next Five Year Plan. Specifically, we will use this time to brainstorm what the “Arts” component of the Centre for Faith, Justice and the Arts means to us; what we originally envisaged, what we’ve done since then and what we hope to do over the next five years. And we hope you will also invite any community artists or non-resident art groups to attend that you feel might help us in this process.
We, the Strategic Plan Working Group and interested members of the TSP congregation, will meet in the gymnasium at Trinity St. Paul’s United Church from noon until 3 p.m. on Sunday November 2, 2008. A light lunch and childcare will be provided. We ask that you help us anticipate your childcare needs by letting us know how many children will be attending, as well as their age. Please call or Email Vicki Obedkoff at 416-922-8435 ext.24 or vobedkoff@trinitystpauls.ca. As well, a workshop exploring the nature of Justice will be held the following Sunday, November 9, from noon to 3 p.m., which you are also invited to attend as we weave together the arts with justice-making in our vision of the Centre.
We look forward to working with you on this visioning process as we seek ways to further develop TSP as a Centre for Faith, Justice and the Arts. Please RSVP if you plan to attend, or if you have any questions, feel free to contact Christine Wong at cjwong@sympatico.ca. If you are unable to attend, you can still give us your thoughts through an online questionnaire we will be placing on our website at www.tspucc.org.
