Hi all

The weather for Sunday is predicted to be:
-60% chance of precipitation
-Showers are predicted for the whole day and for Monday
-The clearing trend is not happening till Tuesday so we cannot even hope for the weather blowing through a little faster.

So I think it is time to make a decision so we can cut our losses to the Association
-The Beer and wine have not yet been purchased
-the bulk of the food has not yet been purchased
-we can cancel the toilet, the police, the security
-the rentals can be canceled today but not tomorrow
As most of you know, this is a very special event to me personally and it with heavy heart that I inform you now that the event has to be cancelled for 2008.

There some fixed costs that are not recoverable such as insurance and permits and the like which will total approximately $800
I am pretty sure we can make this up by having the Silent Auction at a later date
And an opportunity has already presented itself in the form of the very First Annual Harbord Street Pumpkin Festival to be held November 1 this year in the evening
This developed out of an idea that Tim Grant brought to the Board and for which Neil Wright of the Harbord BIA has produced some amazing plans.
In brief the idea is to have all residents bring their Halloween pumpkins to Harbord the day after Halloween and light them along the street. It will be a terrific effect. He has gone further however and has arranged an "Event" complete with celebrity pumpkins.. He has also reserved the Art Gallery at Robert and Harbord [formerly the front room of Hutoshis] as a green room for the celebrities and he has offered it to us for the purpose of holding the Silent Auction for items that would have been dealt with this Sunday. I think we could easily cover our losses at this event and as we usually make about $1500- $1800 on the Auction, we will actually turn a profit

As for the Fall Fair - we will be back next year!!! Look at it this way, we were lucky enough to get 16 years of rainless Fall Fairs up to 2008 ...
So here is to another 16 beginning in 2009!
