(Contact Samiha Sayed at samsayed@aol.com if you have any questions or would like to be notified of our upcoming workshops in June.) Hello Neighbours, The Harbord Treeing The Village Committee has been hard at work this year, and the following are the planned projects for this summer. Two of these projects, would need your help, with specific tasks. 1-  TREE WORKSHOPS The first of our three Tree Workshops this summer, will be on Tree Care: " Tree Maintenance: An Investment for the Future", presented by Professor Andy Kenney, Faculty of Forestry, author of the Neighbourwoods, and Mr. Philip Van Wassaener, a consulting arborist and urban forest specialist. The focus will be on successfully establishing trees and their maintenance. It will include tree selection, proper planting, structural pruning and mulching: cultivating healthy trees for the future.   You are invited to attend this workshop at The Kensington Gardens, South Building, 25 Brunswick Ave. (just north of College)-   Tuesday  May 27th, 6:30- 8:30 pm The second Tree Workshop will be on  "Tree Identification in the City", and the third will be on " Growing Healthy Trees: Pest Diagnosis and What You Can Do About Them".  2- PLANTING BACKYARD TREES: Digging teams We now have 30 trees ordered to plant in backyards, in the Harbord Village. We need volunteer diggers on Saturday May 31 st. , 10:00- 1:00 am ,  2:00 - 5:00 pm, or the whole day. ( Lunch at Harbord House included) ; rain date, Sunday, June 1st. (You can bring your strong teenagers!) The day will end with a nice surprise! If you want to join the team and help, please call or email Dinny Biggs right away!dinnybiggs@gmail.com   Phone: 416 923 6321 3- TREE INVENTORY : Volunteers needed Last year, an inventory of Harbord Village's Urban Forest was undertaken. Volunteers from the community formed teams, assessing the species, size, condition and location of approximately 2,000 private and city trees. We are pleased to announce that through Service Canada, a student will be hired to complete last year's inventory, which will give us the full picture of our urban forest. Volunteers are needed to help the hired student. If interested, let us know which month ( June, July, August), and time of day (morning, evening, week-ends), you may be available. You can let the student know  if you are still available on times you indicated. Please address your response, with phone number,  to samsayed@aol.com  Last year's experience has been very rewarding for the volunteers, and we hope you can join us this year. Dinny Biggs  and Samiha SayedHarbord Village,  Treeing the Village Committee
