Hello, Harbord Village Residents' Association Members,

The Downtown West Solar Energy Project is a community-based solar energy system bulk buying project.  Sponsored by the Harbord Village Residents' Association, and co-chaired by HVRA board members Tim Grant and David Booz, the DWSEP has been helping local residents learn more about solar energy systems for their homes.

DWSEP participants have already purchased 12 photovoltaic systems from the PV vendor, Solera Sustainable Energies.  Participants have also purchased 16 solar hot water systems from our hot water vendor, Goldwater Solar Services.  The majority of these systems have been installed and are generating electricity and hot water, to the delight of the solar energy pioneers who have invested in this exciting technology.

The DWSEP wants to allow more downtown residents the opportunity to participate in the project and obtain their own solar energy systems, so they are re-opening the project and hosting another public meeting.  The provincial and federal governments are offering a $ 1000 subsidy on solar water heating systems and the province is paying homeowners $ 0.42/kWh for all the solar electricity they produce, so now is a good time for you to consider adding solar energy to your home.

Wednesday March 19, 2008, 7:00 pm
St. Vladimir Institute Theatre,
620 Spadina Avenue (south of Harbord)

Come out and learn more about this opportunity to have a solar energy system for your home or office.  At this meeting, you will hear the following and more:

  • What the Downtown West Solar Energy Project has achieved so far
  • Energy Audits for your home and why they are important
  • Testimonials from homeowners who have purchased PV and hot water systems
  • Leonard Allen, President of Solera Sustainable Energies, on photovoltaic systems
  • Aaron Goldwater, CEO of Goldwater Solar Services, on solar hot water systems
  • Questions and answers

Mark this date on your calendar and come out to learn how you can reduce your carbon footprint and make a difference to the planet!  Summer is the busy season for solar energy system vendors, so this is your opportunity to get to the front of the line for an early spring installation.

We are hoping for a great response to this meeting, so please share this e-mail with your friends and neighbours and encourage them to come to the meeting and learn more about the project.   You don't have to be planning to purchase a system to come out and learn more about solar energy opportunities in Downtown West.

If you have any questions about the Downtown West Solar Energy Project, please contact Tim Grant at tim@greenteacher.com or David Booz at 416-806-2669.

We hope to see you on March 19!

Best wishes,
Gus Sinclair
