Dear HVRA member
As you know from the mailer from the City, the new recycling bins are now on offer.
There are things to applaud about the new system but some things are not quite right, in our opinion, about the "one solution fits all" system that comes with it

Some good things [we think]:
Garbage and Recycling will be off the property tax and those who throw out more will pay more.... anything that makes people think about what is going into our trash and recycling is a good thing
It is also good that there is an attempt to invent a system that is more automated and less labour intensive... but the method selected..[Trucks with arms that pick up and dump] works best in suburban streets and less well downtown where there is on-street parking
In addition, the bins on offer are large and out of scale for downtown.... some of the bins may not fit between our houses for example.
Councillor Vaughan has been aware of this for some time and has finally prevailed in his attempt to find a solution for downtowners and should should you wish to avail youselves of it- this is the way to do it.

A smaller size bin will be available in the summer for those that want it.. it will be about the size of the current blue box.
What you do now is order the medium bin and if you wish the smaller one when it becomes available, you can exchange the medium for the small at no charge
