Help us to continue to be Good Neighbours, Building a Great Neighbourhood.

Together we have:

  • Put on the best community Fall Fair in town. Almost 1000 residents attend this annual party on a Sunday afternoon in mid-September.

  • Helped to revitalize College Street (Spadina to Bathurst) with wider sidewalks and 90 more trees.

  • Organized well-attended community meetings with guest speakers twice each year.

  • We organized a bulk purchase of solar water heaters and solar electric panels for interested local residents — the first resident’s association in the City to do so.

  • Protected Philosopher’s Walk from encroachment and saved many mature trees.

  • Provided a strong voice to City Hall on community issues through the credibility that comes with having over 400 members!

  • Hired  U. of T. Forestry students and recruited 40 volunteers over two summers to undertake a tree inventory to determine the health of our part of the urban forest.

  • Purchased green composting bins to enable groups of interested residents to start community composting more than a year before year before the City distributed bins to each household.

  • After the Robert and Major Street fires in recent years, we distributed a fire prevention education flyer with funds donated by residents, the Harbord Street BIA, and patrons of the Free Times Café.

  • Succeeded in designating Lower Brunswick, Willcocks, Robert, Russell and part of Spadina as a Heritage Conservation District.

  • Removed unsightly tagging and created outdoor murals as part of an aggressive new graffiti removal strategy throughout HVRA.

  • Working with the Harbord Street BIA, launched the annual Harbord Street Pumpkin Festival every November 1st, the day after Halloween.

  • Launched the Home Energy Retrofit Project (HERO) to enable residents to obtain high-quality energy audits, and encourage them to invest in energy conservation for their homes.
